Longridge solar power scheme - register your interest

I'm Interested Longridge Business Group has successfully pressed an initiative increasing the sustainability of the town, backing a major utility company's partnership with GB Energy. Longridge Business Group members OBAS UK and GB Energy have signed a contract to install solar panels at OBAS' Chapel Hill premises for free and have enabled this model to be rolled out to other Longridge firms, schools and property owners in the area - providing them with the opportunity to install solar panels at no cost to themselves. It is claimed the panels could reduce monthly energy bills by up to 75%.

See Flyer The deal is part of a £1 billion strategy and means that businesses and homeowners could benefit from cheaper, eco-friendly energy and would put Longridge at the cutting edge of green technology. The installation of the panels is to be funded through a £1 billion budget to develop solar energy provision programmes and, through GB Energy, a very substantial percentage of that budget has been committed to the Longridge scheme.

The massive coup for the town was announced on 15/09/2010 at the double-bill Town Team launch and Economy Event at the Civic Hall, attended by more than 100 business owners and councillors.

OBAS managing director and Town Team member Norman Tenray said: "Longridge is set to become a national model for sustainable energy. We are tremendously proud to have started the ball rolling on this and hopefully many others in Longridge will reap the benefits of it over time.

"We are also in discussions with businesses and a local school where solar panels should provide significant savings which will enable them to further expand their recreation facilities and possibly afford a new teacher. It sends a significant message to the national business community."

The news was warmly welcomed by Coun Ken Hind, chairman for the evening, and by Longridge Business Group chairman Alistair Sheret, as a "massive achievement" for Longridge.
