Philip and Barbara opened their shop 26 years ago.

Philip is a member of the National Association of Goldsmiths and a registered valuer with more than 40 years' experience.

Meanwhile, both wife Barbara and sister-in-law Hillary, (who joined the business in 1995), hold the prestigious Retail Jewellers, Diploma.

They're now serving a third generation of customers, who return again and again for the guaranteed friendly service and depth of knowledge offered by the family.

The wide range of stock includes an extensive collection of diamond and precious gemstone jewellery in both traditional and contemporary styles, and contemporary silver jewellery from Ortak and Kit Heath.

They also sell Dreyfuss hand- made Swiss watches. Rotary and Citizen Eco-Drive watches and
figures by Border Fine Arts and John Beswick porcelain, as well as Beatrix Potter figures, which
are popular.

A fine range of cuff-links, pocket watches, barometers and clocks means there is no shortage of gifts for men.

Keen to share their knowledge, Barbara says: "We encourage people to ask questions." Philip adds: "Our stock is hand- picked and chosen by ourselves - we give quality and value for money, catering for all ages and pockets. We can also design bespoke jewellery as we have our own independent workshop."

Customers may bring an inherited piece of jewellery, such as a ring and ask for it to be converted
into a pendant, so giving these heirlooms another lease of life.

Goldsmiths, who open Tuesday to Saturday, offer a full jewellery repair service.
